LAANC stands for Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability. LAANC is the system run by the FAA that allows drone pilots the ability to be authorized to fly in controlled airspace by connecting to an FAA database through the Aloft platform. Currently, only Part 107 operations are utilizing LAANC, though as of Summer 2019, all operations in controlled airspace (including recreational) are required to use LAANC to operate in controlled airspace. Kittyhawk is one of the few LAANC USS offering LAANC authorizations to the public.
